This software is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and noninfringement. See LICENSE (MIT).

In no event shall the author or copyright holder be liable for any claim, damages or other liability — whether in an action of contract, tort or otherwise — arising from, out of or in connection with this software or its use. This includes, without limitation: loss or corruption of your Kodi library or watch history, loss of data held in any third-party storage service, downtime, incorrect playback positions, or any consequence of another household member seeing what you have watched.

You run this software entirely at your own risk. It is a personal hobby project. There is no support obligation, no uptime commitment, and no promise that it will keep working after any Kodi, operating-system or third-party service change.

2. No affiliation

This project is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the XBMC Foundation, Team Kodi, or any media provider, add-on, repository or streaming service. "Kodi" is a trademark of the XBMC Foundation and is used here only to identify the software this add-on runs inside, as a matter of nominative fair use.

Any third-party storage or hosting service this project can be configured to use is operated by its own provider under its own terms. This project is not affiliated with those providers and makes no representation about their availability, security or durability.

3. This project ships no content, and must not be used to obtain any

Room Watch Sync contains no media, no links to media, no scrapers, no indexes, no streams and no search of any kind. It does one thing: it reads the playback position of media you already have access to on your own devices, and copies that position between televisions in your own home.

Permitted use: synchronising your own playback progress, for media you have obtained lawfully, across devices you own or control.

Prohibited use. You may not use this software, in whole or in part:

  1. to locate, index, search for, stream, download, upload, share, host or distribute any content you do not hold the rights to, or that is not licensed for your use;
  2. to circumvent, disable or interfere with any technological protection measure, digital rights management, access control, geo-restriction or licence enforcement mechanism;
  3. in combination with, or as a component of, any add-on, build, repository, device or service whose purpose is unauthorised access to copyrighted works;
  4. in any manner that violates the copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights of any person, or any law applicable to you;
  5. to process another person's viewing history without their knowledge and consent.

You are solely responsible for the legality of the media you play and of your use of this software in your jurisdiction. The author does not monitor, cannot monitor, and accepts no responsibility for how this software is used. If your intended use falls under any of the prohibitions above, you do not have permission to use this software — uninstall it.

4. Privacy — what leaves your home, and what protects it

When you pair two or more devices, the add-on stores a small record in a third-party storage service on the public internet. That record contains what you watched and how far you got — titles, episode numbers and timestamps. Viewing history says a lot about a person. Treat it accordingly.

The pairing code is the only thing that protects that record. Anyone who learns your code can read your household's watch history, and can write to it. Therefore:

No account, email address or payment detail is collected by this project. The author operates no server and receives no telemetry. The third-party storage provider you choose may log IP addresses and request metadata under its own privacy policy, which you should read.

5. Export, and your own law

Nothing here is legal advice. Laws on copyright, private copying, format shifting and personal data differ by country, and what is lawful where the author lives may not be lawful where you live. Checking that is your job, not the author's.
